Arisa investigates the supply chains of Dutch and other European companies in South Asia. In many of these supply chains, serious labour abuses are present: for example, the use of child labour, non-payment of minimum wages, discrimination against women and Dalit workers, and forced labour. Discrimination against women and minorities such as Dalits is often linked to other abuses, including underpayment and unhealthy and unsafe work.
We undertake research in close collaboration with partner organisations in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. We publish our research findings and actively bring these to the attention of companies, politicians and governments.
In our research reports, we make recommendations on how to address the abuses and malpractices identified. If companies are willing, the research can serve as a starting point for further dialogue and collaboration with companies. This can lead to improvements in working conditions.
